As diesel freezes, it begins to gel. This can happen anytime the temperature drops below 32 degrees Fahrenheit, but most often when the temperature hits 15 degrees.
Signs that diesel fuel has gelled include:
White smoke from the exhaust when trying to accelerate.
The engine stops running while sitting idle and trying to throttle.
The vehicle starts, but won't continually run.
There is winter-grade diesel as well as anti gel conditioners/additives out there that you might want to check into.
