Warthog

I am at home sick today and while sitting in my chair doing some work e-mail I hear the sound of some aircraft which simply got louder and louder. As it got closer it was not the sound you normally hear from aircraft flying over, so I lean forward and look outside in time to see two A-10 Thuderbolt II's (aka Warthog) flying over side by side. Pretty cool site. I would imagine they are from the 442nd Fighter Wing, an Air Force Reserve Command unit that flies the A-10 Thunderbolt II, which calls Whiteman Air Force Base home.

I would imagine they were in the neighborhood as part of the airshow that took place this past weekend.

It was interesting to read somewhere that the first squadron to use the A-10 went operational in October 1977. In total, 715 airplanes were produced, the last in 1984. Not exactly new equipment, but still impressive when you see them in action. They are supposedly slated to stay in action for another 20 years or longer.
