I can believe that Lay was just stupid and out of touch. Skilling's arrogance and power trip are such that there's no way he didn't know what was going on...
Lay received a bachelor's degree in economics in 1964 and his masters in economics in 1965 from the University of Missouri in Columbia, which is about 30 miles north of where I live.
In 1998, the Lay Family Foundation donated $1.1 million to the Economics Department and I heard on the news the other night that the University is contemplating giving it back depending on the outcome of the trial.
