Looking for info on Remote Desktop Connection for Windows, then you might check out "Remote Desktop Connection How To...".

If you don't already have it loaded you can install the client to your Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000 or XP machine from a Windows 2003 server via the following command:

\\computername\Tsclient\Win32\Setup.exe

..or simply download it from Microsoft.

Yesterday was not a good day.

For some reason farming and I don't tend to get along.

I was brush hogging on the old Ford 601 Workmaster when backing up the front wheels must have bumped something and the unsprung weight snapped the steering wheel the opposite direction along with my arm. Happy thoughts immediately went through my mind. Okay, maybe not. As if you can't easily tell from the couple of shots below, I now have a broken left arm. Ouch.

Site Meter World Map

Just looking at Site Meter's World Map. Kind of neat. You can graphically see where your last 1 to 100 hits (for free account) came from on the map. Hovering over the dots will give you the location will give you further info. One can zoom, etc..

Wireless

Well I now have wireless capability. Linksys could have made the install quicker for me if I would have passed up their quick setup CD.

I'll try to post what worked for my connection through Mediacom later.

Gateway Portable 2nd Post

Well I was impressed with the timeliness of the problem call to the point of them having my portable, but I was not happy when I called today thinking that I would be getting an e-mail anytime stating that it was being shipped back. Instead I was told that the portable was not under warranty. I stated it showed right on the site that it was. The rep stated that it was not under warranty for the cracked case as it didn't have accidental damage protection (ADP). That is fine. It has been cracked for months. I just didn't want to send it back because I didn't want to be without it, but since I had to send it back for the monitor so I figured I would report it and have it looked at. The rep did not mention ADP when I mentioned the problem. It works fine, so I had just put a piece of tape on it and it worked fine. It appears to have a stress point right in front of the DVD player when put in the port replicator and holding the pressure from the weight of ones wrist and hands. I told that my corporate account rep would be calling me. I said that I should have been told that when I put in the issue. I would simply have discounted it and had them fix the screen and send it back. Needless to say now, they are holding it pending calling me. I guess to see how to proceed. I told them all they needed to do was fix the monitor problem and send it back. They said the rep would be calling. I tracked down the rep info and left voicemail and followed with an e-mail. As there is not another portable available for me to throw my hard drive into, I am stuck with an old desktop until it returns. At one point in time one would have thought 550Mhz was blazing. Well, not anymore. UGH! I want my portable back.

Bloglines Enhancement

I noticed that Bloglines has implemented one of my suggestions. Cool. (Of course, I may not be the only one that had the suggestion.)

What was the suggestion? It was to have a way to tell how many new items are in a folder versus how many you have marked as "keep new". Before if you marked any as keep new they simply reflected in the new number, so you might end up going back into the folder thinking there was something truly new, when all it was is stuff you wanted to keep for later. Now if you have marked any keep new in a folder it will display how many are new followed by a colon and then how many you have marked as keep new.

If you have not marked any keep new it will simply display the number of new without a colon. If there are no new ones then it doesn't display anything.

Examples:

Missouri Governor's Office News (27)
If all are new and none are marked as keep new then it does not bother to put anything else.

IBM Redbooks | Lotus (0:1)
If the inverse of the one above is true, as in this case, then it displays a zero for new followed by the number of items marked as keep new.

The Car Blog (3:1)
If you have some of both then it will display the counts of both.

Sysinternals
If there is neither, then it doesn't have any numbers displayed after it.

Thanks Bloglines! Maybe small compared to many out there, but with 246 feeds, I find this to be a handy feature.

Porsche Cayman S

It looks like it takes a lot of lines from other cars. A bit Opel GT, a bit Nizzan 350Z, a bit (Ferrari) Dino 246GT, a bit Makko Shark (Corvette), and a bit Porsche (of course).

Crazy Ford Focus

My crazy Ford Focus. I am almost wondering if it is posessed. Popping the hatch has been a fiasco lately. Much as it was last year. They replaced the hatch mechanism and it seemed to do a bit better, but as the weather got warmer it got better. Well now that it is getting colder again, it has decided to act up more. It has gotten to the point where it won't pop using the button inside and it would not pop using the key fob unless you would shut the car off and take the key out and press the fob. Yesterday when I dropped my son off at school it actually popped normally although it sounded a bit weak. Upon jumping out of the car and hitting the fob to lock the car upon parking at work, it did nothing. I figured the battery on the fob must have gone out, until I reached in and pressed the button to lock the doors and nothing happened. The hatch won't pop and the doors won't lock or unlock automatically now. I am back to the old fashioned way of locking doors on a car. Not sure if my kids would even know how to lock the doors and use a key to unlock the vehicle. :-)

I had fewer problems in the 5 years I had my used 1987 Toyota Corolla GT-S FX/16 (I purchased in 1996, than what I have had with my 2001 Ford Focus ZX3 S2.

10 Mistakes in Performance Management Implementations

Here are 10 Mistakes in Performance Management Implementations per PMI's September 2005 PMI Network. They site Managing Operations and
Institute of Management Accountants as the source.

1. Assuming that performance will improve simply because management
mandated that it will.

2. Failing to communicate the details of the process improvement plan
before acting and failing to provide guidelines on how employees
should use the program to achieve company objectives.

3. Using threats, intimidation and scare tactics to push through improvements.

4. Asusming that middle management automatically will buy into the
improvement process.

5. Putting process over purpose. Too many organizations become so
preoccupied with improvement that they lose sight of the real
objectives.

6. Becoming obsessed with numbers and constantly raising operations standards.

7. Counting on catchy slogans, buttons, balloons and free lunches to
solve performance problems and maintain staff morale.

8. Assuming that your people know how to perform to expectations or
simply telling them the steps to do their jobs -- without helping them
build the skills required for peak productivity.

9. Falling victim to the "we are so powerful we can do anything" syndrome.

10. Providing lukewarm support to performance management and failing
to allocate the resources required for the effort.

Showin my age

It seems like some of the blog sites geared towards a younger generation often have some tie to music, showing what they are listening to, what they like, etc., so here is what I am listening to, "Runnin Down a Dream", from Tom Petty's Full Moon Fever album. Needless to say I am not of the younger "blog generation".

Gateway Portable

I had to send my work portable back to Gateway for service today. The monitor went out on it. I had the shipping box in a day, but I know I won't have it back in a day. That is always such a pain.

Not the Headline you want to see..

..especially when you are a State Employee in Missouri.

"Missouri State Employees Are Lowest Paid Nationally"

Blogger for Word

Now that is interesting.

Of course, it is good to know more about Blogger for Word.

And good to know about known issues.

Of course I get an error when trying to use it.

MSN Experiencing Problems.

Well that is not cool.

Massive E-mail Storage

Everybody is getting into the bigger mail box. With all of the free and nominal fee online e-mail accounts, if you were a small company it might be worth it to use free mail accounts or pay for individual accounts versus dealing with your own e-mail infrastructure.

Illusion Picture

I have always been terrible about looking at the illusion pics and seeing something in them. Maybe it has to do with my astigmatism. Anyway I am not sure why, but my wife forwarded on one from her friend and if I look at it long enough I can even make out the giraffe in it. Follow the link to see if you can find it.

Gmail: Help Center - Send from address

I like GMails new send from feature. Rather handy as I have some mail forwarded into one account and now don't need to switch accounts just to reply. Of course, the next thing it needs is to add a corresponding signature for each Send From Address.

Fat Aussie Slacker

I did not know that was one of the names for the Vauxhall Monaro VXR/Holden Monaro/Pontiac GTO.

You can find other car stuff from those that reviewed the car in the video at Top Gear.

Jeeves is out

I read somewhere that Jeeves will be getting the axe. So long Jeeves. The search engine (simply ask.com) will still be around. They will just be dropping the butler mascot.

Spares

I would say when your core router goes down it would be good to have a backup handy. That is just a thought as our core router experienced some sort of problem this morning and we were down for much of the day, which does nothing for productivity. Nothing but lessons it that is.

Homecoming Week

This past week was homecoming week for my oldest son. I am not sure if it was a busier week for the kids or the parents.
