Office 2007

The new look of Word (v2007 Beta 3).

Of course, one of the nice features is the ability to save to PDF.

The time is getting closer for the new Outlander.

Ten True Things About Technology

John Soat points out "Ten True Things About Technology", but I would imagine you can think of a few more.

Internet Washer

I can see it now.

Hey, somebody hacked into my washing machine and did all of my colors in hot!

"Whirlpool begins 'smart' washer test"

Or you are in that big important meeting and you get a text from your dryer telling you that it is on fire.

Conference Call for 150 - Free

This might be handy for some.

Update - Tested: I have tried it out. There was only one other person in the conference, but it worked fine and the sound quality was good.

What will your next jet be? Maybe a Honda.

Private Folder Pulled

The picture says it all.

Microsoft removed the free Private Folder download. Maybe not legally, but I imagine it is available for download somewhere.

See the Informationweek article, "Microsoft Backs Off, Axes Private Folder Tool", for more.

Excerpt:

Debate over Microsoft's decision raged on a number of blogs last week. Most who weighed in agreed that Private Folder, while useful for home users, was a nightmare for systems administrators, as the tool has no feature for recovering forgotten passwords.

Griping about not having a way to recover a password. Hello, if you are looking to have something secure, isn't that a good thing?

I posted about it on my Bloglines blog.

Football

Football will be here before you know it.

Weather

Kind of warm for 6:30pm.

Myself, I say me.

Why is it that so many people have started using the word "myself" in place of the word "me"?

It seems to have spread in epidemic proportions. I hear it so often that I will probably end up saying it myself.

Free Access Class

Looking for a course on Microsoft Access 2003. Sony has a free one starting on July 17, 2006.

Course Outline
Lesson 1: Your First Database
In this lesson, you'll learn how databases work, and how to create one on your own computer. Then you'll create a table for storing data, and practice entering data into its datasheet.
Lesson ( Will be posted Monday, July 17 )
Assignment
Quiz

Lesson 2: Improving and Connecting Tables
Tables are the basis of any database. In this lesson, you'll learn how to modify and improve your tables, and how to join them together to create a relational database management system.
Lesson ( Will be posted Thursday, July 20 )
Assignment
Quiz

Lesson 3: Finding, Sorting, and Filtering Data
Data in a database isn't much good unless you can locate the exact piece of data you need at any given moment. In this lesson, you'll learn some techniques for finding, sorting, and filtering data, and then save a filter for later reuse.
Lesson ( Will be posted Monday, July 24 )
Assignment
Quiz

Lesson 4: Creating Queries
Queries enable you to store filters for later reuse, but they're much more powerful than that. In this lesson, you'll learn how to construct queries that sort and filter data, join two or more tables, and even create new fields by calculating the values in other fields.
Lesson ( Will be posted Thursday, July 27 )
Assignment
Quiz

Lesson 5: Creating Data Entry Forms
Many users find it easier to enter data into a user-friendly form than a datasheet. In this lesson, you'll learn how to create forms that contain fields, labels, headers/footers, and even subforms with information from linked tables.
Lesson ( Will be posted Monday, July 31 )
Assignment
Quiz

Lesson 6: Creating Reports
Datasheets and forms are great for onscreen use, but they're not very attractive when printed. Reports enable you to format and lay out your data attractively for distributing in hard-copy form. In this lesson, you'll learn how to create, format, and print a report.
Lesson ( Will be posted Thursday, August 3 )

G-Force Visualization

The G-Force Visualization for Windows Media Player (available for other players as well) is pretty cool. Even the free version. It keeps advertising the gold version, but still pretty cool graphics.

Scrapbooking and more

If you are interested in Scrapbooking, you might be interested in CNET's free online course, "Create a Scrapbook with Your Digital Photos". It appears that a hardcore scrapbooker may be beyond this, but one can often pick up something new from a class as well as make a few friends that have a common interest.

I think I'll take the "Setting up VoIP (Voice over IP)" to see what I can learn from it.

MS Private Folder

Interesting, free app from Microsoft.

An application IT Managers may use on their own desktop, but will not like it on others. Funny how many of them like locking others out of things, but don't like being locked out of things themselves.

Picasa Web Albums

I would have thought that there might be a page similar to Google Videos where one would go to browse the Public Albums, but it appears they are only public if you know about them via a link on someone's page or an invitation. One can find a few when searching around, several from posts individuals have made about Picasa Web Albums.

Anderson Erickson Radio

For many in the Des Moines, Iowa area, especially for the older generations, you mention AE and people will think you are talking about the Anderson Erickson Dairy. Of course, talk to any teenager and most will equate AE to American Eagle.

You can probably guess which one has AE Radio on their site.
