Teamstudio Script Browser and Agent Data Tool - FREE

Did you see that TeamStudio has a new utility for download? The best part is it is free. (Of course, that is a relative term. As you do have to register for a userid and password, you may end up getting some marketing propaganda, but they do have some good products, so it might be worth it.)

It is called Script Browser.

Excerpt from Teamstudio:

Functional Features

Teamstudio Script Browser shows:

  • all classes and functions from the main tree, with 3 tabs to sort the code by script library, by class, or by call. Selecting something in the tree displays the properties of that function/class.
  • the name of the script library in which the function is found.
  • the line number on which the function is defined within the script library.
  • how the function was declared, especially useful for when you simply want to know what parameters to pass to a function.

Update Note: You have to have other Teamstudio products (maybe the suite of products) for this free utility to work. That is not the case for the Agent Data Tool. One developer has tried it so far with no luck. It would not load and the rest of the Teamstudio icons would disappear in the client. In talking with Teamstudio they walked through several scenarios, which did not fix the issue other than getting the icons back in the client. They said they would talk to the developer that wrote the tool. Our scenario. We are running Teamstudio version 20a and 21 is out. We are running Notes 6.5.2 and 6.5.3 is out which might make a difference.

They also have the Agent Data Tool available for free download. This is similar to IBM's Compact Agent Tool, but is not limited to one database at a time.

Excerpt from Teamstudio:

This little utility allows you to scan a database to identify agent data notes that are no longer being referenced by an agent. Agent data notes are design elements created and used by agents when they run. Lotus identifies a number of technotes related to agent data. One of the issues that can arise is that some databases, over time, can accumulate hundreds of these elements causing the database to grow in size. Since most of these orphaned agent data notes are no longer attached to an agent, they will never be deleted. There is also no easy way to remove them since they do not show up in Designer.

Both are available once you have logged in via the download page.

I can't really endorse them as I have not used them. My staff probably will. If you want to share your experience with these tools feel free to comment. They are free unsupported "as-is" utilities.

Update 4/8/05: Adrew Pollack gives his review of Script Browser on his site. From his review it does not appear that you do have to have any of Teamstudio's other products.

Ben Poole also mentions being pleased with it in the comments of his post.

Duffbert even had an early copy. You can tell that I am trying to catch up on some of my reading again.

Bloglines adds another cool feature

Did you see that Bloglines has added Package Tracking. Pretty Cool. Now if I just had a package I needed to track.

From Bloglines:
Package Tracking

We are pleased to announce our newest feature, package tracking. Now, you can have Bloglines track the status of your UPS, FedEx, and USPS packages. From your My Feeds page, click the Add link in the left pane. Then, click the Package Tracking link in the right pane. From there you can enter tracking numbers for UPS, FedEx, and USPS packages. Also, you can do a search on a specific tracking number. Entering a tracking number will create a subscription in your account that is updated whenever the status of your package changes. Blockbuster is probably wishing there were NO MORE LEGAL FEES

Blockbuster's No Late Fees equals Some Legal Fees for the company. See the Missouri Attorney General's News Release.

Licensing

I'll leave the names and company out of the picture on this one to
protect the guilty??

Hmm. We have been looking at some software and trying to determine
what licensing we should use. After reading some information on their
website it was not real clear which way to go. It stated on the site
that if you had any questions about licensing to simply send them in.

I did that and shortly thereafter received an automated response on
2/25/05 noting that my message had been received and assigned a number
for tracking purposes and displayed the text of my question as well.
It stated that I could add information to my question at any time if I
needed to simply to make sure that I included the number assigned in
the subject field so that the info could be matched up.

After not having heard anything and wanting to know, I followed up
with the assigned number in the subject field yesterday (3/38/05)
asking if anyone could answer my question.

Now I am not sure that I want to look into the licensing any further.

After leaving last night I received responses from two individuals at
the company. The first from a Sales Executive that sent an e-mail
responding that I would need one kind of license and followed up by
leaving a voicemail. At one point in the voicemail she was stammering
and simply said that my request must have gotten lost. (Possibly
honest, but not sure if that is the kind of wording a company that is
marketing software really wants used. Another one that gets me is
when you are calling a large computer industry company and the rep on
the other end says something like, "Sorry it is taking a while to
bring up your record, our computers are running kind of slow today.".
Hello, then why do I want to buy a computer from you! I have
experienced this one more than once.) The Sales Executive left her
phone number and stated that I could call her directly if I had any
licensing questions.

The second e-mail came about 20 minutes later from the Executive Vice
President of Worldwide Sales. It did not make any reference to the
message sent by the Sales Executive, but contradicted what she had
stated. It basically stated that I did not need the license that the
Sales Executive stated that I had to have, although he did state that
a lot of organizations such as ours do take advantage of the license
that she mentioned in her note.

Ugh!

Blogger T-Shirts

Hey Google. I've got an idea for you. You sell the Blogger T-Shirt (style 1, style 2), but why not allow one to personalize it by allowing one to put their own blogger address on it. Possibly selecting front, back, or both. I think you would find people willing to pay for the customization.

Honda Ridgeline

Of course, I have not driven one, but I think the Honda Ridgeline will do pretty well.

Honda Ridgeline

For one, it is a Honda, and is based on the good selling Pilot. Also look at the proliferation of four door pickups in the market and the Chevy Avalanche gaining some acceptance to a bit of a different look (especially now that it is offered without all of the plastic). Of course, it will not compete with the heavy duty pickup market for real working trucks. I think the same reason that makes it such a great truck for urban dwellers is one of the strikes against it for real work, that being the integrated bed. I think the integrated bed makes it more structurally rigid, lending itself to a better more comfortable road/highway ride. I would say having a box that one cannot simply unbolt and replace is a minus for a pickup that gets much real work, but once again, for the weekend yard clippings, groceries, sports gear, the occasional furniture purchase (couch, bed, etc..), and such I think it should be a winner.

I think it would work for the trip to office and back each day, even if the steering wheel is on the wrong side. ;-) Okay, so maybe the route to work would be a bit longer than normal.

Passion

This is kind of along the lines of some of Libby's recent posts (She Could Be Me..., Are You Happy With Yours?).

If you have a passion and your passion becomes your job, does it spoil your passion?

I enjoy photography and I have thought it would be neat simply taking scenic photographs for a living, but then I wonder would it really. Photography is something I really enjoy, but if I were forced to take certain photos, meet deadlines, etc.., would I still derive the same amount of enjoyment or would it simply become work. Hmm.

Art Show - Loeb House - 4/4/05 thru 4/27/05 - Cambridge, MA 02138

If you find yourself in the Cambridge area between April 4th and April 27th, stop by the Loeb House and check out the unique and incredible two and three dimensional artwork of Dan Marks. They are all great, but I enjoy his 3-D work the best. As noted in the announcement the gallery is open weekdays only. One can call (617)-495-4313 for their hours.

Physical

I did have that physical. I had it on St. Pat's Day. I asked the girl on the phone when scheduling if I had to wear green. It took her a second, but pick up on it quickly and stated that it did not matter if I wore green, but I would probably get more than a pinch.

She was right! :-)

Anyway, the good news is that for all practical purposes I am healthy.

Good on colesterol, PSA, etc..

The doctor did comment that my blood pressure was just a bit high on this visit. I was able to tell him why right away. I knew they would be coming my way with a needle. I told him that I was maxed out on my frequent flyer miles from the Vasovagal club.

Needles+Bonj does not mix well.

It is funny as I don't know when things will go well and when they won't. They have gotten better. This visit went well. They didn't have to pick me up off of the floor.

I even gave myself allergy shots for a couple of years without a problem. I didn't like the inconvenience of driving across town and waiting to have a nurse give me a shot of antigen that I had already paid for. It also seemed kind of silly to pay $10-$12 a shot for the nurse to give it to me when I could give it to myself for about 25 cents a shot.

Yes you give it to yourself in the top of the thigh. I must say there are different qualities of needles out there too. I had good luck with the (BD brand?) Monoject needles. I tried another brand at one point. Big difference, they did not seem as sharp, which meant that you had to push a lot harder to get them to go in. Ugh! Last time I bought that brand. I don't remember the brand name as it has been years since I gave myself the shots, which the doctor took me off of after giving them to myself for two years as they had no affect on my allergies.

Not sure if my translation of this is totally correct, but the doctor did say that the speed at which the electical signal runs down the brachial in the heart is slower (milliseconds) on the right side, which is fairly common and nothing to worry about.

When calling with the blood test results they did throw in that I should watch my diet and exercise more.

Have you had your physical yet?

Update on Friend

Pepsi

You might have caught my post about the friend that had a heart attack. Since finding out that it happened, with one exception, I have made it by at least once a day to see how he is doing. Well today is the best so far. They started bringing him around a bit over the weekend. The pneumonia is finally better. They took him off of the ventilator today. A big step in a long recovery process.

He was the most alert that I have seen him. He can't really talk after having the tubes down his throat for so long, but can nod in response to you. He is still drugged up a bit. His was trying to say something while I was there and his wife was able to make it out when putting her ear to his mouth. He was asking for a Pepsi. Dang it, I am a Coke fan! I would still be more than happy to buy him a Pepsi. They will be doing a swallow test tomorrow, so needless to say they wouldn't let him have a Pepsi today. Who knows maybe the next place you'll see him is on a Pepsi commercial. Being removed from the ventilator and asking for a Pepsi. I could see them trying it. Better make it a caffeine free Pepsi.

MSN as the home page

MSN Logo

I don't like having MSN set as the homepage anymore. I don't like the way the page loads. At the perfect moment that you are trying to type a URL in the address bar the page finishes loading and sets the cursor to the "Search the Web" field. Annoying. If your not paying attention you end up typing the url that you were trying to get to into the search field and hitting enter thus doing a search rather than going directly to the page. I guess that is one way for them to increase the use of their search engine. Come on, set the focus to the "Search the Web" field at the beginning of loading the page, so I can do what I want quicker.

Losing your mind - Part 3

I got an e-mail asking if I wanted to keep my PMR open or if it could be closed.

I checked the status of your issue(SPR #GFLY57ZRY8) and it is still "in the works", so there is currently no fix. However, the good news is that development has successfully recreated your issue, meaning we're one step closer to resolution! Now that you have the SPR number, you can check its progress yourself by visiting www.notes.net, clicking on the "Support" section ->Lotus Software Fix Lists -> in the "Notes and Domino" section, click on Notes/Domino Fix List -> at the bottom of this page click "Enter the Notes/Domino Fix List Database". From there you can simply search by the SPR number!

If it's alright with you, I'd like to go ahead and close this PMR at this time. Please let me know how you'd like to proceed. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you.

I followed the instructions to check the SPR on notes.net (It looks like even the techs don't want to try to type the long nasty url (http://www-130.ibm.com/developerworks/lotus/).

Upon typing in the SPR nothing shows up. I even scrolled through to look for it. As I did not find it I let the tech know. Here is the response.

I have verified that it is the correct SPR number. However, it won't appear in the fix list database until a maintenance release is available. If you'd like, we can keep this PMR open longer so that I can give you updates similar to the one I just gave you. The "big" news about SPRs will be available in the fix list database though. Also, since IBM plans to release R7 in the next 6 months or so, only pressing issues will be fixed in R6.
Hmm, that response got me to thinking. Does it work in R7. I asked if she would test it, which she did.

I went ahead and tested this issue for you in R7 and verified that this is also a problem in R7. I updated the SPR to reflect my findings, which will increase the priority of the SPR.

Per your request, I will go ahead and close out this PMR for us at this time. However, if you have further questions concerning this PMR or issue, please feel free to contact me at any time.
I told her she could close it at that point. No need for her to have to keep updating me. We'll be able to check new releases to see if it has actually been fixed easy enough.

Blog Reader

My wife is not the most computer literate, but has looked at my blog occasionally, most often a photoblog dedicated to family photos, and sometimes my main photoblog (avisuallife). She follows some news via the web and I believe this is the article (When blogging gets risky) that she ran across about bloggers getting fired. She read some of Heather B. Armstrong's site, dooce.com, and is hooked. She loves reading her site. She finds her hilarious. One part that was a bit funny is that she followed a link to look at a picture Heather mentioned and linked to. She noticed it was a moblog (crazyus). She found that was funny as Heather lives in Utah, what would she be doing with a moblog. Why would she have pictures of Missouri? Why not a utblog? Well, needless to say, she now realizes that moblog stands for mobile blog and not Missouri blog. Oh well, she is learning.

She loves to read books, but who knows, she may broaden her reading, adding sites like Anne's, Jessica's, or Denise Howell's, such that I'll have to teach her how to use a reader next to keep up with them.

I'll need to take down my moblog link at some point, since I got rid of my camera phone, it is really of no use.

Do you know the Heart Attack Warning Signs?

Below is a list from the American Heart Association (one can also find Stroke Warning Signs and Cardiac Arrest Warning Signs on this page).

Heart Attack Warning Signs

Some heart attacks are sudden and intense -- the "movie heart attack," where no one doubts what's happening. But most heart attacks start slowly, with mild pain or discomfort. Often people affected aren't sure what's wrong and wait too long before getting help. Here are signs that can mean a heart attack is happening:

Chest discomfort. Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes, or that goes away and comes back. It can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain.

Discomfort in other areas of the upper body. Symptoms can include pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.

Shortness of breath. May occur with or without chest discomfort.

Other signs: These may include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness.

If you or someone you're with has chest discomfort, especially with one or more of the other signs, don't wait longer than a few minutes (no more than 5) before calling for help. Call 9-1-1... Get to a hospital right away.

Calling 9-1-1 is almost always the fastest way to get lifesaving treatment. Emergency medical services staff can begin treatment when they arrive -- up to an hour sooner than if someone gets to the hospital by car. The staff are also trained to revive someone whose heart has stopped. Patients with chest pain who arrive by ambulance usually receive faster treatment at the hospital, too.

If you can't access the emergency medical services (EMS), have someone drive you to the hospital right away. If you're the one having symptoms, don't drive yourself, unless you have absolutely no other option.

For more information you might visit the American Heart Association or the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute's "Act In Time" page.

Friend

I have a friend. He is a friend, a father, a grandfather, a husband, a Marine, a worker, a citizen, a developer, a Missourian, a buddy, a patriot, a Christian, a coordinator, a volunteer, a joker, a kind hearted soul, and like the rest of us, a person. A vulnerable person. He suffered a heart attack this past weekend and is not doing so well. His friends and family are all praying for him and the doctors have pretty much done all they can. We are now at a wait and see point.

As most of you out there are a friend of someone, and/or possibly have some family (whether they'll claim you or not), why not take a bit of time out of your busy schedule and go get a checkup/physical to see how you are doing (if it has been a while since you have done so). As I just hit 40 last month and it has been a few years, since having an (ahem) annual physical I just called and scheduled one for next week.

Thanks and take care!

Voice Services

Remember those free voice service companies like TelSurf, AudioPoint, BeVocal, Yahoo by Phone, Quack.com, and Tellme that would give you some internet type information (News, Weather, Sports, etc.) simply by dialing in (some toll free). Many maneuvered via voice commands. It seems that most of these have gone by the wayside, at least in regards to their initial business model, except for Tellme.

Yahoo by Phone

Yahoo by Phone (1-800-MY-YAHOO) is still around, but is a pay service.

Bevocal Logo

Bevocal appears to still be in the voice app business, but a model that supplies corporations with custom voice applications.

For those with internet on their phones such services may seem redundant, but it can be nice to make your way to a weather forcast or other such information while commuting without taking your eyes off of the road to click on something via your (insert device name here - e.g. Treo 650).

Excerpts from an early article (5/11/2000) on the services:

These launches are all happening because two crucial technologies have come of age. Speech recognition software from companies such as Lucent, Nuance and Speechworks can now understand a wide range of accents and diction without having to be trained to a specific voice. And computer languages such as VoiceXML make it as easy to write voice services as HTML has made it to write web pages.

With VoiceXML, the human voice becomes a substitute for a computer mouse and the spoken command for a click. It doesn’t, however, call up conventional web pages, but content which is specially composed for a telephone: sound clips, numbers, music, spoken texts.

Of these ventures, TellMe stands out. Its founders are top engineers from Netscape and Microsoft.

TellMe’s mission is not just to be a phone-based information service, but a platform for “v-commerce” (voice commerce). The firm hopes that other companies will use its technology to build a “voice presence” on the Internet, just as they have created web services.

And, last but not least, the services have to find a way to make money. TellMe has opted for an advertising-supported business model, but also intends to charge e-commerce sites for building and maintaining their voice services and it wants to take a cut on every purchase that is made through its system.

Tellme

This is where I would guess some of the mentioned companies were short-sighted and could not figure out a business model for making money. As Tellme (link to corporate page) is the only one that I notice that is still around and offering a free service, I am guessing they may have figured it out best.

What brought about this post?

Sprint Upgrade Program Graphic

I revisited these services as my Sanyo 8100 has gotten to the point where the battery didn't want to hold a charge for any length of time. I was at the point where I could utilize Sprint's New for You Upgrade Program. A new battery would cost as much as a new phone and the Sanyo was also showing some wear and tear. So I utilized the program and got a Nokia 6016i.

Nokia 6016i

Why the Nokia 6016i. I really got to thinking about my Vision Service (Sprint Service required to do Pics and Internet - to fully utilize you also need a phone capable of utilizing the features). I enjoy photography, but the quality, although getting better, isn't that great with most of the phones and the Internet via the phone is somewhat novel. Handy for checking weather, e-mail, or killing time if stuck somewhere, but if you are not a road warrior, you are usually close enough to a PC soon enough that you can really wait. So no money out of pocket and dropped the $15 a month Vision, as this phone doesn't do Internet or Pics. I think this might work out well. I am one of those people that really does prefer a bar phone for some reason. I even like the slide phones better than the flip phones. There are smaller bar phones out there, but this one is a nice comfortable size. I really like it. So to recap, why the Nokia 6016i, it does the simple phone stuff, is a bar type phone, is new (comes with new battery - meaning more phone time than my old one), out no money, actually I saved money. Cool.

GovTrack.us

If you're interested in the status of legislation, the speeches of representatives on the House and Senate floors, voting records, campaign contribution summaries, and more you might want to check out GovTrack.us.

Excerpt from about GovTrack:

The problem isn't that people cannot see what their senators and representatives are doing. They tell us what they're doing through newsletters and media coverage. And we can see them doing what they're doing on C-SPAN. Furthermore, the government itself makes available information about legislation through THOMAS. But each of these sources has its flaws, including bias, dullness, and information overload, making them useless for the interested citizen to casually keep tabs on Congress.

GovTrack.us fills the need for a source of information useful for people. It is both a large collection of data as well as a tool for filtering out what you don't want to see. You can dig deep in GovTrack, finding information the mass media does not have room for, and you can let GovTrack send information to you, like a newspaper customized to your interests. It's the power of the Internet put to use to close the citizen-country divide.

On this site you'll find the status of legislation, the speeches of representatives on the House and Senate floors, voting records, campaign contribution summaries, and more, plus the opinions of other users through their blog entries. And you can follow only the issues that interest you through email updates and RSS feeds.

Not to be confused with GovWatch, a Missouri Legislative Service. GovTrack.us is a free service.

Boo! Hiss!

A local communications company, Learfield, now has the exclusive radio rights to Kansas State athletics. Hey, I have to say Boo, Hiss, I'm from Missouri. I did live in Kansas for a few years as a kid though (parent divorce/custody kind of thing). Being just down the road from Mizzou there are a lot of MU fans here in Jefferson City. I never attended MU, but did attend some at Southwest Missouri State (SMS), or as it may soon be called, "Missouri State University" (MSU) - hmm Mizzou State.

Brussels
President Discusses American and European Alliance

President

Speaking at the Concert Noble Ballroom in Brussels on Monday, President Bush discussed the importance of the United States' ties with the European Union and NATO Alliance.

"Today, America and Europe face a moment of consequence and opportunity. Together we can once again set history on a hopeful course -- away from poverty and despair, and toward development and the dignity of self-rule; away from resentment and violence, and toward justice and the peaceful settlement of differences. Seizing this moment requires idealism: We must see in every person the right and the capacity to live in freedom.

"Seizing this moment requires realism: We must act wisely and deliberately in the face of complex challenges. And seizing this moment also requires cooperation, because when Europe and America stand together, no problem can stand against us. As past debates fade, as great duties become clear, let us begin a new era of transatlantic unity."

Slovakian Prime Minister
President Bush Meets with Slovakian Prime Minister Dzurinda

President

President Bush on Thursday met with Slovakian Prime Minister Dzurinda. In remarks after their meeting, he said, "Thank you, Mr. Prime Minister. I'm thrilled to be here. I have really been looking forward to this trip to Slovakia.

"We just had a great discussion. First, I complimented the Prime Minister on putting policies in place that have helped this economy grow. The most important responsibility we have at home is to make sure our people can find work....

"Secondly, I appreciate so very much the Prime Minister's vision on foreign policy. I want to thank you for having your troops by our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Prime Minister understands that those of us who are free have a responsibility to help free others in order to make ourselves more secure. I'm so honored to have your commitment."

The Axe is Swinging Once Again

As is normal when the political climate changes from one party to another in State Government there are those that are relieved of their positions, regardless of their quality of work, to be replaced by individuals chosen by the new administration. Just one of the harsh realities of politics.

Another harsh reality is that the state continues to work with a tight budget. A lot of cuts have been made in the past several years. On the personnel side many positions have been eliminated through attrition. I think one can only go that route for so long. The axe began swinging again this week. Some are in positions that one might traditionally expect the potential of being let go because of the administration change and some are not. The difference is these individuals are being let go without the intent of replacing them, thus a cost savings.

Hopefully I am far enough down the ladder and providing enough value that it won't make it to me.
